Bingo

Derived from a variation of a lotto called Beano – which used beans to mark the numbers. The actual phrase “Bingo” was coined after the game was first introduced in New York and a woman tongue tied with the excitement of winning yelled out “B-B-B-Bingo!” Now when you have all the required numbers, or “pattern,” to win you are supposed to yell out “Bingo!” right after your last winning number is called. Most bingo halls will not honor a bingo on a winning number if it is not called before the next number has been announced.

Bingo Board

A display board, usually electronic that lights up showing each number as it is called.

Bingo Card

A card containing 24 numbered spaces and one free space (blank), with which you play BINGO. The numbers are assigned at random on each card and are arranged in five columns of five numbers each by five rows (5 x 5 = 25 in total including the blank square). The numbers in the B column are between 1 and 15, in the I column 16 and 30, in the N column 31 and 45, in the G column 46 and 60, and in the W column between 61 and 75. Players have thousands of unique cards.

Player may also trade in cards that don’t offer a good chance of winning for 2 new cards at half price. These are called exchanges.
